The Harvest Institute is a research organization dedicated to public policy research, education and advocacy activities that will foster economic self-sufficiency and competitiveness in Black America.
The Institute is an
outgrowth of the book, Black Labor, White Wealth: A Search for Power and Economic Justice, authored by the founder, Dr. Claud Anderson.
The Institute was established in 1993 and is a non-partisan, tax-exempt, non-profit
organization dedicated to the principles of black economic development, geo-political empowerment, developing institutional leadership and reconstructing black communities.
These template principles that guide the Institute
research, education and advocacy activities are extracted from the historical analysis and solutions presented in the book Black Labor, White Wealth. The template principles guide the Institute in redefining the public agenda, building
a network of economic and political programs, giving substance and weight to black issues and they lay the foundation for a new self-empowerment vision.
The Institutes's main office is located in downtown Washington, D.C., a
short distance from the District of Columbia City Hall, the White House and the United States Congress. The Institute's primary domestic and international research areas are designed not only to inform Black America about developing
issues that
effect their lives, but to provide an analysis of how best to respond within the context of a national plan. The Institute's operational goals are to link black intellect and human capital with its financial capital. The Harvest Institute will formulate strategies to overcome barriers and take advantage of socioeconomic opportunities placing emphasis on developing winning strategies using cultural business niches, vertical industrial development and community accountability.
The Institute communicates its findings through a variety of formats for the benefit of Associates, elected officials, the media, community organizations, churches, universities, business people, the black community at large
and others who are interested in better understanding racial issues. The Institute produces a newsletter and Interpreters, which are background issue papers. Dr. Anderson represents The Harvest Institute's new paradigm for analysis and
solutions at national policy forums, lectures and via radio, television and other electronic media. When fully operational, the Media and Public Affairs Division will also distribute special alert bulletins, reports, studies and will
produce audio-visual materials and host public forums and seminars.
Individuals, corporations and organizations are eligible to support the work of The Harvest Institute through tax deductible gifts. Federal employees can
contribute through the Combined Federal Campaign under the National Black United Federation of Charities. The Institute donor number #1644.
